1The Core Protocol

Job-First System

Unlike the Graduate Visa, you need a sponsor before you apply.

1. The Job Offer

Must be from a UK employer approved by the Home Office.

2. The "CoS"

Employer issues a "Certificate of Sponsorship". This is your digital ticket.

3. Salary Threshold

Usually £38,700 or the "going rate" for your job, whichever is higher.

Every job has a 4-digit Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code. Your job description must match the code's duties.

e.g. 2136: Programmers and software development professionals
Path to ILR

Settlement

This visa leads to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 5 years of continuous residence and employment.

2Duration & Validity

Visa Length

Up to 5 Years

Granted based on the duration of your Certificate of Sponsorship.

Extensions

Unlimited

You can extend as many times as needed, forming a continuous path.

Stay for 5 years → Apply for Settlement (Permanent Residency).

Employer Support

Many established companies will pay the Certificate of Sponsorship fee (£199) and the Immigration Skills Charge (£1,000/yr).

4Rights

  • Supplementary WorkUp to 20 hours/week in the same occupation code or a shortage occupation.
  • Study (as long as it doesn't interfere with your job).
  • Bring partner and children.
  • Travel abroad freely.

5Restrictions

  • Cannot quit your job without finding a new sponsor or leaving the UK.
  • No access to Public Funds (Benefits).
  • Cannot work a second permanent job (unless supplementary rules are met).
